HOT CHIP - MADE IN THE DARK
Release Date – 04/02/2008
Hot Chip return with a new album ‘Made In The Dark’ on February 4th 2008. ‘Made In The Dark’ is the amazing & ambidextrous follow up to the massively acclaimed, Mercury Music Prize nominated album ‘The Warning’ recorded and self-produced during the last six months from their home London studio base. Informed by two solid years of touring (many of the songs you may already know from their live shows) and charts their ever growing sonic ascendance into one of the UK’s most original and like/loveable bands.
‘Made In The Dark’ is the definitive Hot Chip record and could have been made by no other band. It would probably be easiest to say that ‘Made In The Dark’ is faster and rockier than ‘The Warning’, but that is only beginning to scratch the service. Within its 13 tracks there is both rhythmical chaos (Shake A Fist’, ‘Bendable Poseable’), soulful introspection (We’re Looking For A Lot Of Love’, the title track ‘Made In The Dark’ & ‘In The Privacy Of Our Love’) and even contemporary widescreen pop (Ready For The Floor, One Pure Thought)…The songs are propulsive, repetitive, rhythmical, methodical, wonky, intimate, beautiful and uniquely Hot Chip.
The campaign for the new album effectively began in the summer of 2007 when the band headlined the John Peel Tent at Glastonbury before playing their largest headline gig to date with a sell out show at Somerset House in London, shortly before a new track crept out on very limited 12"...
PROMOTIONS
...that track being the mentalist Todd Rundgren sampling anthem (and album highlight!) ‘Shake A Fist’ which has already caused a massive stir since it crept out on limited edition etched 12” earlier. That track picked up stacks of support over the summer including plays from Zane Lowe (Hottest Record In The World TWICE!), Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Jo Whiley, Colin Murray and John Kennedy as well as loads of club support and also topped the Club NME chart. Not bad!
The first single proper from the album is 'Ready For The Floor', released January 28th, which has already taken on a life of its own! The track received it's world premiere on Zane Lowe as yet another Hottest Record In The World, before picking up regular plays on XFM and 6Music, as well as Radio 1's Friday night dance shows (Judge Jules sitting in for Pete Tong and Annie Mac). The single has an unbelievable THREE records of the week w/c December 10th - Zane Lowe at Radio 1, Alex Zane for XFM and 6Music breakfast show. That's been followed up by Sara Cox making it a daytime record of the week w/c Dec 31 when sitting in for Jo Whiley. It's now on the B-list at Radio 1 and daytime playlist at XFM. Not bad!
Other support from Radio 1 has come via transmission of Hot Chip's Essential Mix on December 28th, an A To Z with Rob Da Bank with more to come...a Zane Lowe session, Annie Mac Minimix and Q&A slot with Steve Lamacq on In New Music We Trust are all on their way, to be followed up by a live in Leicester Square session for XFM.
TV performances are confirmed for T4 and The Culture Show on January 26th, just before the single's released, and then Later With Jools Holland on February 15th.
The amazing video for the new single (shot by Nima who also made the unforgettable video for 'Over And Over') is already playlisted at MTV2, QTV, MTV Dance, E4 Music, and Flaunt with more to come.
On the press front, expect rave reviews, big features and a number of covers at the start of 2008.
